We had the privilege to interview the author of 'Life of Ryu' - Ryunosuke Kikuchi this weekend. This is a rare opportunity and the interview can only be found here on Ryu's Fan Club (RFC).
Here is how the interview went:
So what made you write this book? Did you plan this before hand? What gave you the idea?
No, I did not plan for this. I was in the car with my friend one day and he asked me "How come you're not wearing a seat belt?" and I told him that few months back I decided to dislike seat belts just for the heck of it. So he told me that my life was very interesting and if I ever wrote a book about it, he would buy it. So I decided to write the book.
You choose to narrate your life from a rabbit's point of view, how does that work?
Well, I find reading biographies kind of boring so I decided to add a new twist, manipulating the facts and exaggerating them was out of the question so I wanted something different. I choose a rabbit out of all the other things because I really like the book 'Watership down' and 'Redwall' where animals are intelligent beings, I also own a pet rabbit 'Peter' which I named after 'Peter rabbit'. I guess it is my favorite animal.
What do you choose to do after this? Will you continue to write?
I was thinking of writing a general theory on dreams for my non-fiction and I really wanted to write more fiction. I thought the biography was going to be a real drag but it turned out to be pretty fun. It was a great experience. It also helped to pay off most of my debts. I have a habit of excessive air conditioning usage. So, yes, I really hope to write more so keep your eyes open.
Well, thank you for your time, it was a pleasure talking to you
Yes, it was my pleasure too, hope there will be more members in your fan club.
So there you have it, our interview with Ryunosuke Kikuchi, hoped you learned more about him from our exclusive interview.
